AAAS 329: Black Youth in Film & Television

This course explores Black youth in action movies, drama, television, commercials, and short films through a historical and contemporary lens while critically questioning if television and film are true artistic expressions of Black art and Black culture. In movies and television, Black youth are often portrayed as “bad boys”, delinquents, and “naughty by nature”. Students will watch and discuss popular images, behaviors, and societal stereotypes of Black youth. Students will explore Black cinema and television in black and white and in color.
