Research Forum

Thanks to the vision of Professor Dorthy Pennington, our Department established the Undergraduate Research Forum in African and African-American Studies in 2004. In the inaugural forum held at the media-enhanced seminar room of the Department, two students made a presentation on AIDS in Kenya and the Hip-hop culture of African Americans respectively. The forum was attended by professors, graduate students, and undergraduates from the American Studies program and the Department of African and African-American Studies. The forum and the refreshments were sponsored by Dr. Pennington. The Forum is an annual event and students are encouraged to participate in it. For more information, contact: Dorthy Pennington dpen@ku.edu.

Students in our Department also compete at the KU Undergraduate Research presentation. In 2009, Maria Beg, our major, won the top prize at the research competition.
