AAAS 536: Islamic Art & Architecture in Africa
Study of Islamic art and architecture in various cultural and geographical settings, from the first mosques of North African and the Swahili coast to contemporary Islamized masquerades in West Africa. We consider art objects and architectural sites in terms of religious practice, trade and commerce, ritual and political power, and contemporary expression. (Same as HA 536.)
